Have you ever had a dream you felt destined to realize?
Randy & Peggy Mosher, the creators and owners of Grand Oaks, are two ordinary people who had a dream like that, and now feel amazingly blessed to be seeing it come true. Not originally from the event industry, they have been able to “think outside the box” and approach the designing and building of their event center like you would, from a client's perspective.Randy is a CPA from northeastern Ohio, having graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College, and Peggy is a Registered Nurse with a degree from The Ohio State University. They've been married over 22 years, during which time they worked in their respective professions. Randy managed (and later owned) the family propane business, Peggy worked part-time as a nurse while raising their four children. In their spare time they liked to host and cater their own parties, sometimes rather large ones, and that eventually evolved into a small catering business for the two of them.
People loved their parties and their food, and marveled at how calm and organized the hosts were. After enough people had suggested that they should really do this for a living (after all, why not do what you love and are good at?), the dream began to take root. In the beginning it was small, as they considered opening a bed-and-breakfast with a small area to host weddings and events.
Peggy (who grew up in Circleville, just south of Columbus) eventually longed to be back nearer to her family, especially as her mom's health worsened. It was difficult for Randy to leave his family business, but he eventually gave in. They sold their business, moved to Grove City, and enjoyed “retirement” for a few years, but the dream was still there... and the rest, as they say, is history.
They found a great piece of property that provided the private wooded backdrop they had envisioned, accompanied by great access to all major highways. Peggy started putting her vision down on graph paper, designing the building at their kitchen table. They called on the experts to help with the details, talking with caterers, wedding & event planners, photographers and musicians. They found the perfect builder, one who was able to take their vision and make it a reality. They received plenty of help and encouragement from family, friends, the community, and people in the industry. Two of their children, Grant and Andrea (the inspiration for the “Gr-and” in the Grand Oaks name), are involved in the business and have been an integral part of its creation.
Every person who walks through the doors at Grand Oaks becomes a part of the ongoing dream that started with Randy and Peggy and continues to grow with each event.
